About

From the heady heights of the Peruvian Andes to the crisp waves of the Pacific coast

The   origins   of   Rumba   Casa   Latina   are   rooted   very   firmly   in   the   creative   and   energetic   vision   of   manager   and   co-director Coco Vega. Coco   Vega   was   born   in   Cusco,   Peru   and   emigrated   to   the   UK   in   his   early   twenties   to   pursue   a   successful   music   career   with his   band   APU   that   has   spanned   almost   30   years.      With   his   lifelong   passion   for   music,   dance   and   the   arts   Coco   has developed   a   well-known   reputation   in   the   North   East   of   England   and   beyond   as   a   charming   and   enigmatic   host   and entertainer   and   this   is   what   has   led   to   the   creation   of   Rumba   Casa   Latina,   where   musical   roots   and   culinary   heritage combine to form a lively hub of good food and great nightlife in the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne. Thanks   to   its   diverse   climate   and   physical   geography,   Peru   provides   an   immense   variety   of   fresh   fruit,   vegetables,   meat and   fish.   Rumba   Casa   Latina   serves   a   variety   of   authentic   dishes   alongside   a   selection   of   carefully   chosen   fine   wines   to tantalise   your   taste   buds   and   transport   your   senses   from   the   heady   heights   of   the   Peruvian   Andes   to   the   crisp   waves   of the Pacific coast. Alfonso   Yañez   is   the   culinary   artist   behind   a   select   menu   designed   to   bring   the   best   of   Peruvian   food   to   the   North   East table.   Alfonso   arrived   in   the   UK   in   2003   to   work   in   the   Cooperage,   one   of   Newcastle’s   oldest   establishments.   From   then   he has   cooked   in   a   variety   of   Spanish   and   Latin   restaurants   in   the   North   East   culminating   in   the   opening   of   Solano’s   Peruvian Cuisine   in   the   city   centre.   Rumba   Casa   Latina   has   provided   the   perfect   project   for   Alfonso   to   continue   to   delight   the   North East with the sumptuous fare of his homeland. Rumba   Casa   Latina   is   not   only   an   exciting   and   creative   restaurant,   but   also   a   happening   night   spot   that   brings   you   the best   in   Latin   American   music   and   dance.   If   you   have   ever   considered   learning   to   dance   the   Latino   way,   this   is   the   place   to do   it!   Rumba   Casa   Latina   hosts   dance   classes   and   workshops   in   a   variety   of   Latin   disciplines   such   as   Salsa,   Bachata, Merengue   and   Tango.   Coco   hosts   Latin   music   nights   and   parties   every   week   so   there   is   no   shortage   of   opportunities   to learn a new skill as well as participate in the all-important social life that goes hand-in-hand with Latin dancing!
